The Royal Clarence: A Historic Milestone Achieved – Plans Approved!

Our specialist team at NooKo has worked hand-in-hand with Exeter City Council, Historic England, and our trusted design and construction consultancies, Kirkham Board Associates and Expedite. Honoring the Past, Building the Future

Our vision for The Royal Clarence has always been rooted in a deep respect for its heritage. The devastating fire of 2016 left its indelible mark, and our approved plans embrace this history rather than erase it. A key feature of the refined design will see a new, elegant internal staircase thoughtfully wrap around the building’s remarkable historic elements, including the preserved burnt timbers. This will create a poignant, visible connection between the old and the new, celebrating the building’s dramatic past from within every high-end apartment.

As NooKo Director Max Sayers shared with ITV today: “We feel a profound sense of responsibility as custodians of this historic site. Our vision is to honour its past – specifically by showcasing the historic fabric saved from the fire—while delivering a sustainable, world-class development that the city can be proud of once again.”

The approved scheme will deliver 25 exquisitely designed apartments, with an increased number of two-bedroom units to meet local demand. The interiors, curated by Letty Sayers, will exemplify the signature ‘NooKo touch’ – a commitment to using recycled and sustainable materials, sourced locally wherever possible, to create the finest homes on Exeter’s Cathedral Green.
