FOR RELEASE
9 July 2025
After just 22 months of transformation, the scaffolding is down and Paternoster House is once again a thriving part of Exeter’s city centre. The first residents have now officially moved in, coinciding with the unveiling of its most unique feature: the Turret Apartment, built within the building’s original watchtower.
Located on the corner of Fore Street and North Street, Paternoster House has been carefully redeveloped by NooKo to honour its storied past while creating an elegant, sustainable future. Once Exeter’s first department store and long disused, the building has now been reimagined into 29 new homes and exciting commercial units that blend heritage architecture with modern living.
A City Landmark Reborn
The move-in marks a major milestone in the restoration project, which has turned a neglected landmark into one of the most exciting addresses in the city. Residents now enjoy beautifully designed communal areas, a secure foyer, and access to Exeter’s first rooftop garden terrace with panoramic views of the city skyline.
“Our vision for Paternoster has always been to do justice to the building’s character while creating spaces that people are proud to live in,” said Max Sayers, co-founder of NooKo. “Seeing people move in — making this their home — is the moment it all becomes real.”
Introducing the Turret Apartment
At the heart of the final reveal is the much-anticipated Turret Apartment. This showstopping space is housed in the original octagonal watchtower that once overlooked the city. This distinctive home celebrates the building’s past with lovingly restored historic features, uniquely-shaped spaces, and wraparound views across Exeter.
“With its rich history and architectural detail, the Turret Apartment is something truly special,” said Max at NooKo. “We wanted to honour the building’s watchful past by creating a home that still feels like it has eyes on the city, but with warmth, elegance and a new lease of life.”
Looking Ahead
Though work continues in the commercial spaces and basement-level facilities, the completion of the main residential portion marks the beginning of a new chapter for Paternoster House
Paternoster House is a meaningful part of Exeter’s evolving urban fabric and we’re proud to have brought it back to life.
